Pre-70 Government and Commander Models had brown checkered plastic grips with a Rampant Colt embossed in the center. They have a reputation for shrinking with age, so if they're left off the gun for a few years it may be hard to get them back on. I think the Gold Cups always had checkered wood grips, though. At least, if I were buying one back then I certainly wouldn't want to see cheap plastic grips on Colt's top-of-the-line pistol!
