After 4 months my CQB Elite and Protector II 9mm pistols are back. I got a chance to send some rounds down range this afternoon. I am really pleased with how they turned out.
CQB Elite: went from all black to all gray AT (Love the all gray look). Added carry cuts and fluted chamber. Gray/black aggressive starburst.
Protector II: went from all black to black over FDE. Softened the undercut on the trigger guard which was a bit sharp originally and would really dig in to my middle finger. It has the Ryan Wilson high grip mods. Now it is smooted out and perfect. Added semi extended slide release. Added ameriglo front sight. This color combo was inspired by G50 at this years Bash after admiring his Xtac. I was having trouble settling on a color combo. Hard to capture in photos but I really like it with the dirty olive grips.
At the range both functioned flawless through 600 rounds between the two. Good day shooting steel.

Looking good on both counts. My EDC X9 is all gray, and the XTAC Elite 9mm you were inspired by for the black over FDE look was my first gun in that look, and I liked it a lot. Congrats on the make-overs, they came out well methinks. Looking forward to seeing them in person at the mini-Bash.

Nice, I really like the all gray look. Where’s the wife’s gun?
She took a liking to my CQB Commander, which is Black over gray. So that has become her primary gun. We can call it Her gun. She likes shooting the 1911. She can shoot whatever gun she wants in the safe though:). She has never said a peep negative about my gun habit, an expensive one at that! I just need to get her to the range more often!! Hard to do that with the busyness of life these days. Just got to make the time...

And she is pretty good as I recall. Patti and I are coming to the mini-Bash. Will your better half be there also?

Black one looks great, I think I might go full blackout for my next refinish. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice, how are you liking the Ameriglo frong sight? I'm getting ready to order a Wilson and not sure if I want to go with fiber optic, gold bead or tritium.

WW, did your backyard get a makeover or is that a local range??
I was fixated with the Wilson’s and did not even open the range photo until I read the above.

Sure wish my outdoor ranges were set up that nice.

That range day was the first time I had shot with the Ameriglo. Most of my 1911s have a gold bead. I have two with red fiber optic. Have had green fiber. Also have one with standard tritium set up with front and rear dots.
I suppose it boils down to application and what your eyes like to see and can see for that matter. My eyes are changing with age...need readers all the time now.
For me my preferences for a range gun are:
1) Gold Bead
2) Fiber Red ( seems to pop more to me), green OK
For a primarily defensive gun:
1) Ameriglo (The orange outline really helps pick up of sight and focus in daylight)
2) Standard night sights (Visually I still kinda like that three dot set up)

Some thoughts on the Ameriglo: It's noticeably fatter than the other sight options. I found it great for quick acquisition on close in shots, but decreased accuracy the further I stepped back. This sight is just awesome on a close quarters defensive hand gun in my opinion. Wilson recommends the widest rear notch they sell due to the increased width of this sight, the rear I have currently is the adjustable battle sight which works as well. Next time I am going to swap out the rear sight and put in the extra wide notch and see how that works. May even throw on the tritium rear to see how that works, though there may not be much daylight on either side of the from post, for me though creating a three dot set up would be my preference. Always tinkering...
