Howdy Folks,

I have an M1991A1 that I wish to modify slightly to make it appear more like a G.I. issued 1911 by replacing the hammer, trigger, and mainspring housing with USGI parts. Can someone suggest where I can locate a source for such parts?

Check the classifieds section of this website. There's a member by the name of oldcanuck who deals in USGI parts http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=218430 posting new offerings fairly often. You should also consider the abreviated thumb safety. You can find the Colt brand part through Colt's website or MidwayUSA (when they are in stock)http://www.midwayusa.com/product/795646/colt-thumb-safety-colt-1918-wwi-style-1911-blue. The problem will be matching the finish of the parts to your gun. For example, the Colt thumb safety is polished/blued, nearly all of the USGI parts are Parkerized and your 1991 is probably the brushed blued (if it's a NRM gun).

If you decide to order the thumb safety from MidwayUSA, be sure to do the auto notification to let you know when the part is in stock.

Thanks for the links so far, and for reminding me about the abbreviated thumb safety. My 1991 was made back in '92 and has a parkerized finish.

Just a FYI your M1991A1 is black Parkerized (manganese phosphate). Most surplus USGI parts are a grey color (zinc phosphate).

Yeah, there is quite a difference between the two, I figure I can get the USGI parts refinished to more closely match the Colt, so the parts I'm searching for don't have to be NOS.

You could consider a current production Remington R1 abreviated thumb safety. I don't know if those are MIM - if that matters to you.
