On recoil springs you should see a closed end and an open end. The closed end goes against the guide rod. On magazine springs there should be a closed loop at the top of the spring that sits toward the front of the follower.

I don't know why deleted your post, but it's a great thought and if practicable could be the answer to the high capacity mag problems.
