I need to know the weight of either a non-ramped or ramped (preferable) .45 5" barrel with link and pin. I want to compare the weight to a barrel I have that has a weight welded on (8 oz. with weight). My barrel has cracks running from the barrel link pin and I'm want to figure out why the cracks happened.

Thanks,
Tom

I just received my copy of Jerry Kuhnhausen's 1911 shop manual vol. 2 and the specs show the barrel weighs .20 lbs - 3.2 oz. My barrel with weight is 2.5 times heavier. I've found other info stating that heavy barrels (comps, weight, etc.) sometimes crack/break in the lower lug area - sometimes shearing the entire lower lug off. Since this barrel weight was added in 1986-87, I'm sure the barrel lower lug was not made to handle this much weight.

Or, do I need to look for other causes? The cracks happened after about 300 rounds.

Thanks
