Well, what is it? Model, etc..

It kinda looks like a mix between an XS, a flat top gold cup, and a Mark IV series 80.

Is there a specific designation for this nice looking pistol?

RikWriter....
What is the model designation on the box? I've never seen a Colt in this configuration.
I see a mid 90's enhanced Mark IV slide. I see XS grip safety and thumb safety and sights. I also see what looks to be a nylon (?) trigger. I hope this wasn't sold to you as an XS Colt. Nice gun anyway.
Have fun,
Sam

OK you want us to guess. I would say an XS or Government. The XS would be a special edition. The Government would be highly modified. It does look like the original Trophy reciever and slide though. But totally wrong on everything else.

My guess is a very early production or prototype XS gun. If it can be established that it really came out of the box this way, I'd say it qualifies in the "rare variation" category that Colt collectors love so well!

Very Interesting.... Col. Colt

RikWriter: You have been fooled. That is a new Charles Daly "SUPER DUPER SECRET COMBAT STEALTH" model, with Special aluminum paint indestructo feature.............Seriously: I would say, very nice.

Actually what I have been wanting for years is a Series 80 Enhanced Stainless Govt Model with the flattop slide. They are extremely hard to find.
This one is all factory Colt (I called and checked), it was made in 98 and was a precursor to the XS series guns. They only made this particular configuration for a year, according to the fella at Colt, so I guess it is fairly rare.

Nice find RikWriter....
For whatever reason, the enhanced Colts do have a certain appeal to them. This definately is a keeper in pre-XS form and limited availability. Looks Sharp!

Found a NIB, Colt Blue enhanced Combat Commander Mark IV in 38 Super that is really sharp. Built for Lew Horton. Only 100 made according to Colt. Not going to let this one go either.

Sam

Does it have Ambi's?
I Remember a model like this, but we didn't get them in stock at the time. Came out around the same time as the two tone commander and CCO.

Very nice gun though.

No, doesn't have ambi safeties, just the extended safety. Would you happen to know who makes that safety? Because I wouldn't mind getting an ambi safety for it if I could find one that is just like that one.
Are you sure the trigger is plastic? It sure feels like it's aluminum, but I could be mistaken.

I'm pretty sure it's plastic, since it's the same one that they use in Defenders.
Of course, there's nothing WRONG with a plastic trigger per se.

The parts were delivered through CMore/ Colt Comp IIRC. Perhaps you could contact them to find the supplier?

I love the profile of the safety, and on my Defender I got a set of King's Ambi's. They're too wide on teh pad, but you can grind them down to a more managable size. King's also doesn't use the little leg under the grips, instead holding the offside on with a different hammer pin. Looks cleaner IMO.

I took the sucker to the indoor range today and wrung it out with 250 rounds of Wolf and 150 rounds of Gold Saber and HydraShoks (put a big dent in the wallet!) and it shot great.
Did have two FTFs but those were caused by oversized cases (or poorly-seated bullets, not sure which) on the Wolf. Never gonna use Wolf again...tried it twice now and it's proved crappy both times.
But aside from those two problems, it fed great and was very accurate.

Hey RikWriter

I'm jealous, that's a beautiful gun, and a hell of a find at a gun show. Around here you are lucking if you can find a gun that doesn't need $500 of work after you pay $200 too much for it.

I just finished up my second lot of wolf ammo, 500 rounds each and haven't had my first malfunction. Did have 2 failure to feeds with my wolf .223 but never with my .45.
