It looks like I'll be getting my first 1911 fairly soon, so I want to know what are some good books concerning the 1911 in terms of disassembly, parts, operation, gun smithing and even customization.

Thanks,

Wilson has a good book that you can get from http://www.wilsoncombat.com

Patrick Sweeny has a good book on the 1911, I don't have an URL for his book however. It was/is published by the Gun Digest people.

The Wilson book is actually a booklet, entitled "Wilson Combat 1911 Auto Maintenance Manual." It's an excellent manual for the novice as it's full of colored photos and basic step-by-step instructions. It runs about $11 and is also available from Midway and Brownell's.
