Can you have a shotgun or carbine in your vehicle when you travel? Loaded? Behind the seat?
Time was in Texas you would see just about every truck with shotgun and sometimes even a deer rifle. You didnt hear much about car jacking then and to be fair this was seen mostly in the rural areas.

I still have a gun rack in my pickup. In Texas we dont can haul a long gun just about anywhere.

Here in California you may carry your long arm in your "Easy Rider Rifle Rack" as long as it is not loaded. There are exceptions but basically 12031 PC prohibits a loaded firearm in public. It also gives a Peace Officer the power to inspect any openly displayed longarm to insure it is not loaded.

Believe it or not I saw shotguns and rifles in pickup rifle racks all the time here in California up until about 10 years ago. I still see them but rarely now. I think most folks are worried about theft. Auto buglary here in California is out of control.

In New Mexico you can carry a loaded rifle or shotgun in your vehicle anywhere you want. It can either be concealed or not, does not matter, legal both ways.

People around here do not put them in racks anymore to avoid having the truck broken into and the guns taken. They are in there, just not visable.

In Maine you need a ccf to be able to carry a loaded hand gun in the car no rifles or shotguns. The weapon must be concealable to be carried loaded in the vehicle. You can carry a long arm in the vehicle but it must be unloaded.

When you going to move up over the border from MA (mouth feels dirty from saying that word) to NH?

Here in Colorado, you may carry a long arm in your vehicle but it has to be unloaded in the chamber; cartridges in the magazine are supposed to be all right. If it is a muzzleloader, it is considered unloaded as long as it is not primed. One also must allow a peace officer to inspect the long arm to ensure it is unloaded should they ask. Handguns may be carried loaded (i.e. round in the chamber) in a vehicle. For reference, Colorado Revised Statue 33-6-125.

In Georgia, you may have a loaded long gun in plain sight, e.g., a rifle rack. Concealed long guns must be unloaded and separated from the ammo, so Sidesaddle must be unloaded.

A Firearms License (CCW) allows you to have a concealed handgun anywhere in the vehicle but this does not apply to long guns.
