Today the weather was kinda ugly so I decided to stay in and load some ammo.

Several years ago I bought 10,000 GI pulldown 175gn Sierra Matchkings. Back when you could find them for under .10 each... It did not take long to figure out these bullets would not hold MOA size groups past 600 or so yards. Too torn up from the machine pulling.

Today I decided to put them to good use in my 300 Whisper for subsonic plinking ammo. Using Lake City brass, Federal primers and AA1680 powder I loaded up about 3,000 rounds. It only took about two hours on my 1050.

This load will shoot minute of softball at 100-150 yards with a dot scope. Very quiet and soft recoiling. Very controllable in FA fire. Cant ask for much more when essentially shooting 45 ACP+P ammo.

Reloaded some .45 200gn Xtreme plated SWC test loads with 700-X. 10 each 4.8, 5.0, 5.2 and 5.4 grains. I thought I had it figured out at 4.0 grains because I got burnt powder from 4.2-4.6. But after reading I thought I'ld work it up to the max.

I also finally put a door on the reloading room.

Dillon SDB breakdown

I disassembled my SDB. Very frustrated with it...will call Dillon CS in the morning. Recurrent issues with primer feed and seating (Station 2). They sent me a new assembly soon after I bought the press; now more problems in same station (more involved than swapping out the red plastic tip). I'm definitely not pleased with reliability thus far, as Dillon's rep everywhere was so good. Aggravating to say the least...

I finished cleaning, de-capping and re-sizing the 5 gallon bucket of .45 acp brass I recently got from a shooting buddy.

I now have 5500 rounds of clean, decapped, re-sized and ready to load .45 acp brass.

Now, if I ever find a 9mm Hi Power, I'll clean, decap and resize the 5 gallon bucket of 9mm brass I now have.

Got the keys out of my Reloading room/shop for my MF tractor...Thats Massey Ferguson, not the other MF words...

Moved some items with it then returned the keys to my Reloading room/shop.

Continued work on rebuilding more cabinets over my benches,.

Nothing in the way of actual reloading today....Sorry.

The primer system on the SDB is pretty simple to adjust, what problem are you having with it???

Hey Dan. First it stopped feeding primers consistently. I removed it, changed out the red plastic tip, replaced. Feeding resumed but then it began correctly pressing the primers into the cases only about half the time. I can feel the difference in that short upstroke when it is seating a primer and when it is not. So reloading speed cut dramatically; frustration level pegged the red line. Finished the rest of the primers in the tube, dissassembled everything, will call Dillon in the morning. Related or not, press lever has tightened up considerably. I removed the press, checked/cleaned everything/reassembled...still super tight. I don't know what's up with it.

Broke in a new 190gr hollow point .40 mold the other day, cast around 400. Lubed with Lyman 450 the next day. This morning, I worked up min-max ladder test of 45 rounds with AA#5. Hopefully test in new 2011 on Tuesday.

Slowly working through loading the Hornady 200 gr XTP HP with HS-6. (400 rounds) Tested some work up loads and decided on the max load per the Hornady manual....9.3gr of HS-6 (950fps). I shot some great accuracy at 25' (.5in-1.5in) The test load revealed some muzzle flash, not too excessive. Recoil was a little sharper but not brutal. I may try a 17.5lb recoil spring as I was getting some dings on some of the case mouths. I have been working as well and been spending time with family so its been a slow process.
