i've had no problems with Federal 230gr Hydra-Shocks or Speer 185gr Gold Dots. it might be different for your pistol though so make sure you do your own "test".

I've tested all the major brands and my Custom Classic had no problems. My personal favorite is Winchester SXT and PMC Starfire due to their lower recoil. I also loaded some of my own defense ammo using Hornady 230 grain XTP JHP's and those run great too. Yes, I know I'll go to jail for a thousand years if I ever used the Hornady's in a defensive situation.

<>> i use pmc 230gr fmj. no ftf, no fte. that's what i like in a defensive round. everytime i pull the trigger, bang. i tried a lot of different ammo, but like pmc, inexpensive on my fixed income. that way i can shoot more, and work on my accuracy.

Sorry but I never shot anything except paper and steel plates. I was thinking about shooting a watermelon but I have not gotten around to it yet. Any suggestion for a target? Maybe a big chunk of cheap meat????

Save milk jugs and 2 liter bottles...fill with water and line em up. It will take about 4 or 5 to stop most centerfire pistol hollow points. They will mushroom uniformly in water. If it won't open up in water...it sure as heck won't open up in a body.

Update: Finally put some hollowpoint defense rounds (165gr Hydra-Shok, standard pressure) through my Kimber UC ... happy to report absolutely no trouble. I think next time I'll try out the heavier 200gr Hydra-Shoks.

Anyone recommend the lighter, hotter 165gr Hydra-Shok over the 200gr version?

Anyone else out there doing anything different?
