My 1996A2 is 5 years old and has seen numerous live and dry (more dry, though) fire presentations from leather and Kydex. I try to take very good care of it, but can't always wipe it down every time I touch it (though I try to once every few weeks. The only wear I have is a bit on the front of the slide and some by the grip and thumb safety from rubbing.

What exactly is a parkerized finish? I know that I've heard this before, but can't seem to recall the process? How is it applied and what are the pros and cons of this finish as you see them?

With the great looks and performance (read, durability) of my finish, I don't think I'd ever go with a polymer finish over it.
