I know there are some holster makers who don't think shell cordovan is particularly well suited to holster or gun belt use and isn't worth the additional price that it commands. I was interested in it myself until I spoke to some people who had worked with it.

It was quite awhile ago, so I forgot the exact reason why I had dismissed shell cordovan for a gun belt material. It's not that it's not well suited for that use, just as Mr. Kanaley says, but rather, it's more "high maintenance" than I prefer. It scratches quite easily.
