I get a slight variation in length when reloading and some are a bit longer than the book suggests for max length but they still appear fine per the gauge.

What is the max overall length you have used when reloading?

It depends ...

For best accuracy, the bullet should be seated out long enough so that it touches the lands of the barrel, and the case head is flush with the back of the barrel hood.

This usually works with 230 gr. FMJ, but will not work with many other popular bullets.

I find that the limiting factor is usually what will function through the magazine. In my case, my 200 gr. H&G #68 OAL is 1.265", while my 225 gr. TCBB OAL is 1.255".

For 230 RN, suggest an OAL of 1.260". For 200SWC, 1.250".
With jacketed RN projectiles, a variation of up to +/- .010" is not uncommon, and typically not a problem. Cast lead bullets tend to be a bit more consistant in length, but will still vary by +/-.005"-.008".

I routinely load between 1.265 and 1.272 for 230 grn ball ammo. SAAMI max is 1.275. I have not had a problem other then with the CZ97b where 1.272 is max.

I use Wilson clips and they say not to load longer than 1.250.
I load 230 MC and 200 LSWC to that length and have not had any problems whatsoever. JMHO.

well

I load between 1.260 and 1.265 for 230gr rn. plated.. and 1.245 for 200 lswc.. the books say 1.275 is the longest like Peter said.

hph1911, i use Wilson 47d 10 round magazines and have no problems with bullets 1.260 or longer ?? did not see that with the paperwork that came with the magazines.. Where did it say that?

I don't worry to much if my bullet lengths are .002+- could be the bullet could be i short stroked the cycle, who knows.. not enough to make that big of a difference.

hmm.. did not see that and am surprised actually by it. I'm pretty sure most factory ammo, least the couple of brands i've measured all come in around 1.260.

oh well, let's just say you can use longer then 1.250 bullets in your Wilson mags.
