I talked to the sporting goods counter guy at my local Walmart a couple of days ago. He said 3 or 4 of the store employees who would be selling ammo had to have background checks and attend a training class. All the public would have to do is show a drivers license or other ID. He didn't elaborate, but I expect your name and purchase would be entered into a log book for possible examination by DOJ or local PD if a felon was suspected of buying ammo.
I stocked up last month in preparation for any ammo shortages in my calibers, as Walmart will not special order for you. I think the owner of SG should be able to retire just off my business.
Next stop...off to the garage to clean the rust off my reloading equipment!
