I talked to the sporting goods counter guy at my local Walmart a couple of days ago. He said 3 or 4 of the store employees who would be selling ammo had to have background checks and attend a training class. All the public would have to do is show a drivers license or other ID. He didn't elaborate, but I expect your name and purchase would be entered into a log book for possible examination by DOJ or local PD if a felon was suspected of buying ammo.

I stocked up last month in preparation for any ammo shortages in my calibers, as Walmart will not special order for you. I think the owner of SG should be able to retire just off my business.

Next stop...off to the garage to clean the rust off my reloading equipment!

So just for ghits and shiggles has anyone gone online to like TargetSports and tried to order some ammo to Cali since the 1st?
I tried to order another brick of .22's from Sportsman's Guide a day or two before Christmas and during the order process a message popped up saying this item couldn't be shipped to my zip code. I had ordered plenty a couple of weeks earlier in the month, which I received, but yes, they do know about the new law.

Today I received an email saying my order #12345 would be canceled due to Prop 63. That was a back ordered item which was not ammo, but just some empty brass for my 1800's Snyder BP rifle. In the past, I've tried to order pepper spray from SG, but they wouldn't ship that either, even in 1/2 oz amounts. The empty brass and pepper spray (up to 4oz I think) are both legal in California, but SG is just too lazy to research the laws!

I don't expect to support SG with any more orders in the future, as about all they will ship now is clothing, shoes, and tree stands!

Good to hear they enforce Fed pot laws, but do they? Medical pot is not legal under Federal law. If they don't arrest for possession if you have a medical card, they are NOT enforcing Federal law. Which is it?
If CBP refers to the California Agricultural Inspection Stations near the border of Oregon, Nevada and Arizona, they just ask if you are bringing any fruits or vegetables into the state. Since they are employed by the State of California, and MJ is now legal in the state, I doubt if they give a ratz azz about fed law that conflicts with what the guy who signs their paycheck says. Of course they would have an eye out for other contraband such as illegal ammo importation!

why would brass be stopped from going to CA ??
It shouldn't be stopped, but I guess SG is just running scared. My order was for 24gauge all brass shotgun hulls, empty brass only, no primers.

In all fairness, they could have canceled an ammo order I had forgotten about. Their site still says they have not received new stock of the brass yet, so I'll hold off on accusations until they've had time to receive new stock and ship my order.

Otherwise, I think Cabella's carries the same Magtech brass: https://www.sportsmansguide.com/pro...ech-loadable-brass-shotshells-24-ga?a=1590559
