Considering the gun laws of Florida vs. those in California, I'd look for a new house if I were you.

Just watch out for falling chads.

Sorry.

Amen to that!

I hear from a buddy that there's a place in Orlando that I can rent auto weapons and fire them. Now that sounds like a lot of fun. But what about Ocala?

If you scuba, there are plenty of great spring dives in the area. Literary buff, there's the Marjorie Keenan Rawlings home. Great fishing all around ( especially over on the St. Johns River). Silver Springs Cruise will pass an afternoon and they have a really nice little car museum there. Deland is a skydiving mecca as well as Zepher Hills a little farther south. Don't ask me how I know all this.
Sorry, I can't help much with the shooting.
I do that in my back yard.

As a former resident of Ocala, there is a lot of stuff to do. There are a few smaller ranges, but I did my shooting out in the national forest. Yes, in reply to one other post.. there is a place to do full auto shooting, but I can't recall where (been 7 years). For gun shops... one of my favorite there was Wizard's Gun Shop.. was a great setup and extremely knowledgeable folks.

Since I don't live in Ocala, I can't say what's up there, but people at the ranges I go to say it's a good place to live. I moved to Fl. 12 years ago from NY and haven't regreted it once. Great CCW laws. Just be careful who builds your house!! So my advice is take the time to find a place to move to, and then you can look for the ranges and such. They are all over this state. I also believe IDPA is very active in Ocala.

As for Gun stores in the area if in Ocala, Jerry's Pawn and Gun comes to mind. There are others around, but he does the most business. In Micanopy there's Harry Beckwith's Gunshop (the best IMNSHO), M&C on University in Gainesville if you want high prices and limited selection. Again I'm actually in Gatorville so I'm biased to our stores!

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I don't know what my schedule will be when I get there (I'm working as a consultant) so I'll have to play it by ear. But I will definitely try to get to Beckwith's shop and I might take some of you guys up on the offer to hook up.

Jim,
If you get up to Harry's make sure you come on a Mon, Tues, or Fri, Sat.
Harry is usually off on Wed and Thur, and meeting him is probably the best part of the trip. Pat's not bad either. Tell them Cord sent you. Like I said email me when you know something concrete and I'll try to meet up.
