Gents,
I was talking with a local belt maker. I was trying to descride what a good gun belt was made of and what it is expected to do. What weight should a good belt be made of?? How about different cuts of hide example harness leather, would it be good as a gun belt??
Any help would be appreciated.

Mark, The typical weight leather used for a gun belt, or a dress belt that will be used to carry a gun would be between 12 and 15 ounce leather. Now that could translate to a single piece of 12-15 oz. or two 7 ounce pieces stitched together. The two ply and stitched belts will usually hold up longer because the double thickness works against stretching or 'cupping' of the belt where the holster is going to be worn.
