so the 1996 has just better parts but the weapon is pretty much the same action?
I don’t think that’s what was said. You would probably have to talk to some Wilson owners to find out if their parts are really that much better. As far as I can tell, all my Colt parts are great. Never had any problems on them so its hard to say that Wilson’s are better. YMMV though.

You are comparing apples to oranges here. Its like the 1911 is a car and you have lots of different makes and models. The Colt is the Chevy, the Wilson is the BMW.

Wilson's is a semi/custom gun shop. The 1996 model is a semi-custom gun that has had much more fitting and gunsmith attention given to it compared to a production Colt.

You just can not compare the two.

sorry guys, i didn't mean to knock colt in any way, that wasn't my intention, what i mean is the actual action is the same or is a 96 an upgraded action of a 91? i don't mean to compare chev's and bmw's, just a 1991 chev and a 1996 chev. i hope i cleared that out.
oh, action as in internal parts that move around and do stuff, not weather one is made better, just are they in the same place? geez, i'm having trouble making myself understand what i mean now ;-)

The Colt has the Series 80 firing pin block, which adds four small internal parts. Virtually every new gun on the market has a firing pin block, except those of the pre-Series 80 1911 persuasion. Wilson, along with Baer, Rock River, and most of the "custom" shops build 1911's without the FP block. The Wilson '96 will be more accurate then a Colt '91, and probably have a smoother feel (inside and out), but other than that they are very similar, with many, if not most parts interchangeable.
