Try calling Kimber. I called their customer service dept. and asked for another manual for my Pro Raptor II. When I received it, there was a spare take down tool taped to the front cover.
Thanks for posting that.

My used Pro CDP I came with no tool or manual. I figured out the paperclip trick after looking at the .pdf file of the manual I downloaded. Now I'll call Kimber for a paper copy which will be a lot handier out in the shop.

It's actually easier to take it down without the tool. I think there is a thread here which explains how to do it. Just pull back the slide and put positive pressure on the slide catch and it will pop right out once it passes over the notch. Then the slide comes apart and the rest is cake. (you can take apart any .45 using this method. It is especially easy on a full sized .45)

Do the exact procedure in reverse to put it back together. I can take my ultra down in about 4 seconds or so using this method. That tool was just too much of a PITA and took way too much time.

Good luck.

Burntcrispy:

My "Compact Custom" won't come apart that way....

(4", all steel, "Officer's" frame.)

I can get the slide off just fine, but the slide is too short (or the guide rod's bushing is too long?) to get the guide rod assembly out.

The guide rod, it's bushing, and spring have to be compressed enough to back the bushing out of the slide before you can raise the rear portion of the rod up enough to clear the barrel lugs. Doesn't work....

I'm sure this isn't the only model like that.

(Mad Mex: You got the idea! :biglaugh: )

Instead of using a regular paper clip which has very soft metal, find one of these binder clips and make one from it:

Binder clips use a much stronger steel (spring steel if I'm not mistaken). The Kimber will never chop through this stuff!

Be very cautious when using paperclips.
A friend of mine was cleaning his Kimber using a paperclip instead of the take down tool. The paperclip sheared sending the recoil spring plug rocketing across the room. It put a nice divot in his ceiling. If it had hit him in the face, I am sure it would have caused some serious damage.
