I am 63 and have lost things my whole life like that. It never gets better.

Friend of mine hid 4000.00 2 or 3 years ago , still missing. Back when he drank a lot. He quit drinking right after he hid it , so ??
There’s something called “state dependent learning”. If he was drunk when he hid it he might well remember where it was if he was drunk again. Whether the risk of drinking again is worth it he’d have to evaluate. I’d stay sober and keep looking.

Quite a few years ago our Novak BHP turned up missing. Looked everywhere and called the range where we shot matches regularly as well as friends. No go. Finally quit searching and wrote the gun off as lost at the range, stolen or whatever. Had a Dodge mini van at the time with the drawer under the passenger's seat where we only put the manual, a few tools, spare fan belt, oil and oil filters. Went to change the oil several months later and there was the BHP. We were happy to say the least!

His doc told him that. But he says no way he will drink again. Just took so much to quit.

Am I the only idiot that does this.
I just went out of town for the weekend and there was this oddball magazine sitting on my bench.
Hard to find, expensive etc so I figure I will just put it out of sight in the off chance some idiot breaks in and pockets it.

Two weeks later and that magazine is missing in action.
I have NO ideal where I might have thought was sufficiently ‘out of sight’.
So another episode of turning the house upside down to find the damn thing.

The worse ever was a BHP I stashed somewhere- it took me two years to find it..

I keep hoping on one of these searches I’ll find something another home owner here stashed up in the rafters.
THAT hasn’t happened yet but I’m still missing a case of 5.56 and an oddball magazine..
Wait till you're 64, every phooking day is an Easter egg hunt and good luck finding your car at Walmart or the mall. I was at South Coast Plaza in Calif, forgot to take a picture of the lane number, damn place is so big I had to ask security to drive me around to find the car. On the positive side, I wake up to a hot internet supermodel every morning, which is the ONLY benefit to experiencing diminished eyesight after 29 years of marriage.

I don't feel so bad after reading these posts. We live in an older house with storage drawers built into the bathroom walls. Several years ago my wife and I were going on a 10 day cruise. Not wanting to leave firearms in the unoccupied house I took them to my brother-in-law's house to lock up in his safe. Two wouldn't fit, I took those two home and hid them in the empty space under a bottom drawer. When I returned home and retrieved my guns, there was two of them missing. When I finally (2 years later) got around to installing a new handgun safe in a closet next to the bathroom I had to remove the bathroom drawers to bolt the safe to the wall. After removing the bottom drawer, I found two boxes containing the missing guns. Now, when I hide them, I know where they will be.

I am a pack rat, and that makes me much more susceptible to losing things. Tools, I think I have 2or 3 of everything. I knew I had 500 rounds of .357 Silvertips in one of my Ammo cans. Checked every can. No luck finding them, so thought I might have sold them at a gun show, so I gave up. After 15 years I did an inventory of all my ammo and found the Silvertips under 5 boxes of rifled slugs. The box was marked 12 Ga slugs!🙄 The only gun I have missing and have been unable to find for about 4 years is a NAA 22 derringer that I put up to be out of sight. I remember putting it up, I just don’t remember where.

My bride of 53 years, helped me organize my weapons cleaning and reloading stuff a while back. The dies are now lined up on shelves at the back of the press area, and the other gear and components are in sealable tubs on furniture dollies under the benches. All of the precision case gauges are in old medication bottles well labeled. The screwdrivers and other hand tools are on hangers on the peg board behind the benches. She also is the reason I have such a heavy-duty bench. It's an "L" shaped setup with 4x4 legs and a 3/4 inch Ciroan top. She was once employed at the wholesale building supplier and handled Corian products. She's also the reason why all of the home countertops and all 3 baths have Corian tops and bath enclosures.

This is embarrassing.
There is a convenience store a half block away from my home. Unless the weather is awful I walk.
I drove my Jeep over one night when it was raining. I purchased the eggs and butter for the wife and headed home.
My wife looked up when I walked in and asked "Where is your Jeep?"
I said "I will be right back."😐

Just today - I bought two IWB magazine holders last week. Used one right away and stuck the other in the safe, still in the plastic bag. When I went to get it today because I was switching from .45 > .40 I couldn't find it. Of course when I got home and checked again it was right there.
I REALLY need a bigger safe so that I can organize things better.

The story is told about a professor at our seminary who was notoriously preoccupied. He attended a conference in Chicago and upon returning home he called his wife to pick him up from the airport. She reminded him that he drove to Chicago. True or not? I wasn't there, at least not that I can remember.

When pastoring our first church in a very small town in rural northern Minnesota my wife would ask me to pick up a few things at the general store. I would walk and by the time I got there I had forgotten what she wanted so I would use the store phone (long time before cell phones) to call home and get a memory refreshing. I may have had a memory issue but I wasn't slow. I would have her write out a list. That way I could ask Dave, the store owner, if I could use the phone to find out what was on my list that was laying on the kitchen table.

My worst nightmare is going into the garage only to find out my bride has straightened it up. That causes several months worth of events such as this. :(

Grumpy
When the boss lady here moves my stuff, I can never find it. But she does know better than to re-arrange the garage.
