I wanted to update my 1911 SA extractor thought it would be easy task but I did run into a little problem old extractor from SA comes out without any problems and installs the same way:I did not have extraction problems but just wanted to have a extra laying around.
I find the new Wilson extractor to slide in the slide with out problems until the rear part fits into the slide notch (not a loose fit as my old one but need a little more then just slide in but it goes in)
I tried to remove it and find the only way to remove it it too apply pressure to the tip of it were the part clips or the extractor tip that hook the brass

spare extractor

Your new Wilson extractor is perfectly normal. All extractors have a slight
bend in them, so when you place an extractor in the slide, it often takes a
little pressure to seat. An extractor is adjusted to the proper tension by
bending the extractor. You can conduct a search on this thread using the
toolbar at the top of the page, and type in "extractor tension" or something
similar. The threads will help you to understand the proper tension for
proper feeding.

I have a couple of WC extractors that hook the inside of the extractor channel when removing them. I just do as you did and push the hook back to get it out.
