Here's a question for those that have bought this spring, or know about it....

I had a couple that I ordered show up today in the mail that I ordered directly from Wolff. I was expecting just a recoil spring in the package, as that is what it as advertised online as, plus that is what is says on the package itself. But inside each one I ordered was another smaller spring in addition to the recoil spring.

I haven't fully disassembled my Kimber Pro yet, so I am unsure what this other spring is for. Looking at the parts breakout in the Kimber manual, it looks like it could either be an extractor or firing pin spring. It's tightly bound, but not very stiff.

Being that Wolff is closed until monday, I thought I would pose the question here to appease my curiousity without having to totally disassemble the gun to match it.

I can post pictures of it, if that will aid in it's identification.

There is no need to replace the firing pin spring at each recoil spring change. You end up with lots of firing pin springs. You can easily go 5000 rounds with a FP spring. I've known some to be in 1911's for over 20,000 rounds without a problem.

Cool. That was about to be my next question. Thanks for answering that before I had a chance to type it all out.

I was sitting here thinking why they included one, when the change interval far exceeded the recoil spring. Only thing I could imagine is that it is a better "match" to the XP recoil spring, but the two really don't relate in such a way mechanically to warrant having to change that as well.

This Kimber is my first Semi-Auto. I grew up a revolver man, where things were simple and maintenance was "don't drop it in salt water." I decided to get a good 1911 mainly out of curiousity, and also to re-qualify with for the Texas CHL.
