Hello mr_dove,
In IDPA the XD is considered to be a single action as the adminstrators state the striker is fully cocked. I myself find the trigger to be better than a Glock, but many people disagree. In USPSA it is considered as Production. I don't know if I really answered your question, but if you like the trigger enjoy shooting it.

My XD and my 1911 work very similar. Both cases the slide must be racked to set the trigger. If the slide isn't racked, the gun won't fire. So in my opinion, it's very much like SA.

I would consider it an SA trigger, but with several safeties in parallel. By definition the trigger is an SA, but if that means short, light and crisp, then you are misled. It has a fair amount of takeup, some creep and a bit of overtravel. It is like the Glock trigger, but I believe the feel is better.

it's called the Ultra Safety Assurance (U.S.A.) action trigger system. :)

more crisp than the glock.

i notice your wife is looking for an HK. I had an HK. it's alright, but the XD is better for your money.
