I have read that xd40 mags can be used as high cap xd9 mags. Is there any modifications necessary in order to be able to do this reliably?

On a few of them, it is necessary to spred the feed lips slightly to get it to lock open on the last round.

How is this legal?

It is legal because an XD 40 mag is exactly that. I am certain SA would recommend strongly against this practice. But after all, it is your gun, and it is a 10 round mag when used with .40 cal ammo.

first off, do NOT spread the lips...
with a pair of pliers bring the lips towards each other a HAIR...no more...and it'll make the slide stay open on the last shot.

Or, go on www.hs2000talk.com and find Ken Gleeson's ad.
He sells new xd40 mags with the "lip adjustment" for a mere $22 shipped! Can't beat that. A high cap mag for $22...new too!:D

and while you're there, read up on the legality of using the .40 mags on your 9 milli. Don't worry, it's legal.

Well, what are you waitin' for? go get some mags Milky.;)
