I've decided against buying one also. For $1,000 you can almost buy the real thing. Why pay that much for a repro that likely won't increase in value? In the 70's Mauser brought back the Luger for a short while. Today those guns are still worth less than an old beat-up original!
As long as a pre-Series 80 is using an extra-power firing pin spring the chances of having an AD are very remote. Most cases of AD's have involved pistols with fatigued standard power springs.
Mainspring housings with a lanyard loop aren't too hard to come by. Gun Parts Corp. usually has them, since they are affiliated with Auto-Ordinance which makes a WW2 pistol replica using a MSH w/loop. I bought one and stuck it on a Colt of mine. Aside from that, used parts vendors at gun shows have them with regularity.

What is really starting to annoy me is all these repro M1911A1s floating around out there, yet still nobody has taken a decent P-I-C-T-U-R-E of one yet!

From what I have heard, it looks nice but certainly won't fool anybody who has a REAL '43 Colt.

Sights on the WW1 1911 were U notch with a half-moon tapered front. In 1924 it was changed to a parallel-sided front. In 1943 it was further changed to a 1/10" square nothc rear and 1/10" serrated ramp front. You can see examples at http://www.geocities.com/M1911_M1911A1/sights.html

We've already seen that picture, Bulldawg.

What I want to see are high-res pictures showing the markings, sort of like the ones on my site of REAL GI Colts!

I'm really starting to hate Geocities. I noticed even when I provide a link it won't pop up, yet it will if you access it from my Web page. I guess I might have to break down and pay the $$$ for a dedicated site instead wasting time with a freebie.

Anyway, here's the gun in question again, only from a site that I KNOW works:

(this is a real 1944 Colt, not the repro.)

I'd just say mail the gun to me so I could take some shots, but two problems:

1. You probably wouldn't trust me to give it back.

2. USPS has apparently lost an Ithaca that was being shipped to me. At least I'm losing hope of ever seeing it. FFL and C&R holders, have your guns sent ONLY by UPS, even if you don't like the heavy tariff. At least it will get there!

They all suck, you're better off driving cross-country and picking the stuff up yourself :)
The Ithaca isn't officially "lost" yet, but according to the tracking number it's been taking a tour of the country for the past week (it was sent Priority) which tells me they don't know where to send it. The sickening thing is I can't even get ahold of a live human outside my own post office to go tell them to find it and send it in the right direction. At least UPS and Fed Ex can better track their packages.
