Does cleaning a slug gun barrell have more effect on groups than when cleaning a rifle barrell?

My theory is that the plastic from the sabot needs a little dirt in the bore to keep it stablized. A clean bore against plastic may be too slick, causing wide shots.

I shot through a dirty barrell and then a clean barrell and saw a major difference in performance. Anyone else had this happen?
