This is my first post on 1911 Forums. It has taken me 20 years to revisit the 1911 and find a new appreciation. Years ago I tried a friends old Ithaca 1911 and although a decent gun, I just never became interested. Over the last 18 years of my career, I have carried an issued beretta 96D 40, Sig P229R Dak, Glock 19 and now a Vickers Tactical glock 17 with gen 4 glock 26. I also shoot a few USPSA Matches a year and have realized just how much I have missed. A good friend has a few les baers and a springfield TRP .Both are reliable and accurate.
I purchased a sig 1911 tacops last year and was very impressed. I know it may not be a les baer or other high end custom, but it is still my most accurate handgun. Unfortunately, a 1911 is not authorized by my Agency, but I still want to purchase something reliable enough for duty. Something I would count on to protect my family and carry in confidence. Retirement may be 3 years away, depending on if I go at 50 or max out at 57 years old.
I am looking for a railed 5" non SS finish. I really like the baer ultimate recon 1.5" guarantee that my friend has, but not sure if it is the best choice for my needs. Also looking at the DW Specialist in the black finish, SA TRP w/rail, SA Professional and the STI (not sure the model). STI is very popular at my PPC Club, but I also see a lot of FTE/FTF which may be more due to light reloads, but still made me question the quality. Even my sig tacops will shoot anything I put through it. Even 4.0 grains of bullsye with 230 grain FMJ cycles fine. I am not looking for a game gun though, but still want reliability. I would like to know what others recommend that will meet my requirements? Money is not the main factor, but if I can spend a little less to get equal or better quality, that is always a plus.
Any replies are appreciated and if there is something recommended that I did not list, please let me know. Thank you and stay safe!
