H110/296 is wonderful stuff. Stay on the higher side of the charts.

However, one of my favorite low-cost fun loads is 14.5 with a 158 cast lead bullet or inexpensive plated bullet.

IIRC A friend of mine once shot a revolver in our "second-chance" pin match and took first place running a 158 jhp with about 17 gr.

Good to know .. based on a lot of reading it seems 14.5 is a good starting point.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. Try coated 158's at that charge weight.
Back in the day, we did not have the colorful coated bullets. I have a feeling they will perform well at 14.5 charge wt. I'm thinking about ordering a sample bag of BLUE 158 swc bullets... 250 bullets for $29 delivered sounds like a winner to me. I've used BLUE before and their coating is tough. I think I could push those pretty darned hard.

14.5 gives me a satisfying thump without excess stress on the gun, brass or your hand.
