Who's going to fit the barrel? That might impact what I got. Some of the Smiths are particular about which barrels they use and why.
Flech, I called Kart, got his grandson Kyle on the phone. He is really proud to be a 3rd generation part of the legacy. He had these in stock and I could not pass it up. He said to call him with any questions or needing direction on this project. I am just sure that getting a barrel off EBAY marked 38 Super would not be the right ramp configuration or some other anomaly. Not my luck, I know when to fold.
Kart barrels have won more championships now for better than 45 years, I am no champion but his barrels are some of the very best when fit correctly. It is good for the psych to know the best is inside where it counts.

I am ready to get a Super barrel for my Springfield Garrison 9mm. I have a Kart barrel/bushing on my list. I do see where several of you have used the Sig 38 Super barrels available on E Bay. Another uses a BarSto Super barrel as well. The Sig is the least expensive but doesn/t com with a fitted bushing so additional funds to be spent on an EGW fit bushing.
I want the best barrel/bushing for this one as it will stay 38 Super.
I'd look over Search results

AFAIK, a lot of RIA parts are sold thru sarco.

I fit the Sig barrel to my 10mm SR1911 and couldn't be happier. Pulled a bushing from my R1 and it fit both the Ruger slide and Sig barrel like a matched set. Only thing I had to do other than a bit of stoning to one lug was to widen the hood to fit the width of the slide cut. Barrel slugged at .3565" and I size to .357".

If you want the best it can be, send it to Bar-Sto and have a barrel and bushing fit to the pistol.

I have a Kart Xact fit barrel and fitting kit on the way. It is finish chambered and crowned and a good price. I am going to do this myself, one stroke at a time. I have full support from Kart and it will be a great project. it is equipped with the correct link for my frame and I will double check this with the factory barrel. It is a learning experience. it is what i got this pistol for. To learn I am sure I will have lots of questions and will post pics when I start.

I cannot shoot 1" groups at 50 yds.with a pistol. but it is nice to know the pistol is capable of it. Maybe with a good rest on a good day I can come fairly close. I worked up a light load with Titegroup and 115g HAPs that gave me 5 shots in the same hole at.........8 yds. with my Guardian Super and no rest, just 2 handed shooting.
From reading your posts, I'd say you are more than capable of shooting 1" groups at 50 yards under the right conditions. I can't do it from any standing position or even kneeling, but I've done it several times from braced sitting, or rollover prone or off a sold bench with sandbags - but only when the pistol is capable also - most of my handguns are not. A few of them are however - they are the exceptions, rather than the rule...but they give me hope ;)

By no means am I suggesting that even an 8 MOA pistol (4" at 50 yards) is worthless - nea, even a 10-12 MOA pistol.

Please don't think I'm making light of any of the above measurements, a ragged hole at 8-10 yards standing is also a worthy goal :)

My old Les Baer, with the 1 1/2” @ 50 yard group guarantee has a Kart barrel. I’m guessing it has 10k through it and it’s still a b#*#h to take apart. Can barely turn the bushing even with a steel wrench, and then have to use a brass punch to tap it out. Once the bushing is out, Getting the barrel out is almost as tough. I also have a Wilson that went to Rock River Arms, a long time ago and they fitted everything just as tight as the Baer and came back with an 1 1/2” group guarantee at 50 yards. Neither pistol has ever missed a beat. I have 2 full custom “open” guns that have hard fit barrels in them that are a little more accurate, but not by much. One open gun originally was a 38 Supercomp that I also had a 9mm barrel fitted, and the other is 9mm.
In MY pistols, Zero or Nosler jhps are the most accurate, but with the availability issues I’ve been using a lot of Precision Delta jhps and even though they aren’t as pretty, they’re very accurate out of MY pistols.
Your mileage may vary.
Good luck with your project.
let us know how it shoots.

I buy Precision Delta 124g JHPs by the thousand and have had great results in 9mm and 38 Super. It is my go to range bullet. I load VV N320 4.2g with all my 124s in 9mm and they are accurate in all 3 of my 9mms. This SA is my first 1911 9mm and I am eager to start working with it.

I picked up 500 147g HSTs and have about the same in 147g XTPs to develop loads in 38 Super. I have about 600 148g cast TCs from Rimrock in Polson MT to use as range and woods loads for it.

Barsto gave me a 12 to 16 week lead time for that. I called Kart and got Kyle Kart on the line. He had a super 5" barrel in stock finish reamed and crowned so I got it and the fitting kit for $275.00 delivered. I sent a request to Virgil Tripp for his fitting this, He completely reworked the ramp and barrel on my Guardian and it shot great but had a couple things DW needs to address so it has been at DW since October 24th waiting on repair/replace, I told them to NOT screw with the barrel ramp as it is perfect. I should have sent the whole pistol to Tripp not just the barrel. I have lost faith in DW at this point so I am building my own super. I really liked the Guardian, the perfect carry pistol in super. when it is running right. I hope I get it in time for the Bash in May as I am shooting at WC one day that week and want all my pistols I take running like a swiss watch. 2 45acps and 2 38 Supers if the powers that be start smiling down on me LOL

Once your barrel shows up, maybe send it, and the pistol to Virgil for fitting. You may need a different extractor for 38 Super because it’s a rimmed cartridge which is why I prefer 38 Supercomp

I sent Virgil an email this morning asking if he would fit this up, Thanks for the extractor tip, some will and some won't when set up for 9mm. I didn't know all I needed to before I began the Super hunt last winter. And didn't know about the TJ or Supercomp rims. I bought 1000 pieces of twice fired Nickel Super Plus P brass for range and load development and got another 1000 from the same member a couple months later. It has been good brass, primer pockets still tight etc and I have run thru 1000 of them so far with zero issues. I don't mind if I have to leave them on the ground. The ones that primers slip in with less effort I set aside for using where I know I have to leave all my brass. I had 2 500 lots of new Starline plus P cases on backorder that got made last fall so I am well stocked with Super Plus P and will adjust or fit a new extractor with the barrel. I know better now and will probably go with the supercomp or TJ cases in the future after I have worn out 3000 plus cases I have on hand. LOL I started looking for components 14 months ago and all this brass just fell into my lap all at once LOL I couldn't find any for 4 5 months and all of a sudden, powders same way, I have had good results with every Super load I have tried so far. Titegroup for light 115g HAPs, N340, Unique and PP for 124g range loads and I have 3n37 still to try.

Even if I shoot a match at an indoor range, I manage to lose 38 Supercomp brass. Outside, even at my local range that is mostly concrete and astroturf, I lose about 30%.
I use 99% Starline brass because in Supercomp, there isn’t a lot of choices.
I’ve always measured every piece of brass, during inspection, before loading and found that my 38 Supercomp brass shrinks quicker than any other caliber I’ve loaded. I don’t remember the exact measurement before I won’t load them because they headspace on the case mouth as is with most pistol calibers.

RH45, I am hesitant to load up a bunch of super rounds with out a Super barrel on hand to plunk and spin and shoot samples. I have all my previous load data that worked slickly in my Guardian to go by but I hate pulling apart loads. So I am waiting for a pistol to test them in.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you- that would be fantastic!- the best possible option if it materializes!!

That's why I switched over the TJ. Both my Supers have 9mm barrels as well. And I went with TJ over SC since you can size them all the way down with a standard die.

I wouldn't load any without the barrel to plunk test them in either.
You would be surprised at how many people don't.

I have a D.W. PM9 that I sent to Bar-Sto and had a 38Super barrel fit, very happy with the result. One of these days I'm going to put it in a ransom rest just to see how accurate it is. It's a lot more accurate than I am. It does have a tight chamber, my reloads have to be on the money!!

I am checking OAL of these used cases and will pitch any that are shorter than min spec. first thing I checked was length then Primer pocket tightness. I have a scrap bucket that gets any not in spec, 9mm 38 45 etc or bad rims. I used a lot of Genex primers in the used brass as it is a little harder to seat in new Starline cases. For my good loads I stick with my new brass and Fed SPPs. I have several bricks of CCI 400 SRPs to use in my Super too with no difference in velocity between Fed SPPS and the CCI 400 SRPs. I shot them side by side over my Pro Chrony to test them. And have done the same in 9mm. The 400s are a last resort if I can't find SPPs at a reasonable price. I am happy for all the Genex SPPS I can get. Lately 6.67 per hundred at a local GS 67.00 a brick is way better than the Fed Match SPPs for 120.00 a brick lately here.
