The most accurate .22LR round I’ve used is Lapua center-x. Here is a pic from a 10rnd group at 100yrds

I have also found CCI Semi-Auto Quiet and standard velocity to be very accurate especially from handguns.

The only CCI .22LR ammo that I found to be terrible is everything I own is the Clean stuff. Absolutely terrible accuracy in everything I owned.

I only wish I could shoot like that with a Rimfire at 100 yards. My vision really took a dump 10 years ago, and I’m tired of beating myself up with Magnum hunting rifles, so I’ve gotten back into Rimfire this last year. If I can shoot a group like yours at 25 yds, I’m happy? What I’ve found is there’s a lot of Off the Shelf .22 that will only hold around and 1 to 1 1/2 inches at 25 yds. Ammo that allows me to keep my shots touching at 25 yds is exceptional for me (RWS Match and Eley Target), so when I can find an Off the Shelf brand that will go into one hole at 25 yds, I get excited, especially if it’s cheap!

30 years ago a few of us would gather at numerous times to shoot small stuff at 200 - 225 yards with .22s in my back yard. It developed into quite an "arms race". We put a lot of effort into finding the most accurate loads (of course a windy day played Hobb with our results!).

We found Ely 10-X and CCI Green tag tied for the top slot in all of our rifles (which included Wincester 52s, 75s and a Pre-war Walther target rifle). To my utter shock, the local general store had PMC non-plated LR HV for $5 a brick and it shot right up there with the Ely and CCI at 200+ (Perhaps it had settled down and gone subsonic at 200 because it sure didn't shoot that well at 50 yards - not bad but notthing to write home abuot).

I bought two bricks every week until they found out I liked it and they changed it to plated bullets - that didn't shoot as well :(

I am embarrassed to say, we had tons of Winchester MkIV in lockers at college and they could not give the stuff away! Our coach asked us to take some home and practice but I was too dumb! (in fairness, at that time I did not have a .22 target rifle and used one of the schools - which I could not have taken home).

I tried some CCI Sub-Sonic .22LR because I’d heard them recommended as a cheap, accurate .22, and I may have a new favorite. Anybody else have good results with this ammo?
I have not but if you endorse it I will give it a try. Right now I have gotten best accuracy with Aguila Eley Primed Super Extra 40 gr. I reserve it for serious/small game hunting. For plinking just about anything I have on hand.

A local club had 200yd rimfire matches. Almost everyone that didn't use Lapua or RWS used Fiocchi .22 LR ammo. Exactly which variety I do not know.

I confess to being very lazy and not caring about which .22 ammo is more accurate than others in any of my given firearms. I only care that the stuff works reliably and doesn't lead up the barrel. 100% of my shooting with a .22 is just casual plinking of steel swingers, clay targets and soda cans. Punching paper is one of my least-favorite things to do with a firearm unless I'm simply trying to sight it in.

DSK, I am "bi-polar" when it comes to .22s - I have some very accurate .22s (both handguns and rifles) but I also have quite a few "fun guns" - when I am just fiddling around I'll shoot whatevers cheap.

I keep some RWS subsonic HP on hand for small game, and a bit of other standard velocity stuff for accuracy.

But even the cheapest HV stuff will do well enough for my general handguns shooting...at least out to 100 yards (Fired DA).

The target on the left is one shot at each 7, 15, 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards (any miss results in disqualification for the day), target on the right was 5 1-shot drills at 25 yards, 1/2 second time limit (from low ready - off target). Full disclosure; I'm not 100% certain on that right target - the range is right but I did not write down the times. I could not see the hits at 25 yards, the group sort of surprized me!

The gun is a 1951 K-22 - all shots fired DA.

Both targets were shot with cheap HV ammo.

I have some segmented CBs that I keep in the levergun for voles/moles/ground chucks. I carry CCI Stingers in my Single Six for whatever needs scared away. It's my truck/boat/quad gun.
My target guns are Mossbergs and they all love the quiet-22. We have ruffed and blue grouse around here that I sometimes carry my levergun for and that's when I use the quiet-22s that I reshape with the Paco tool.
The only semi-auto 22 I own is a ruger 22/45 and I can't say it really prefers anything over another.

Some years ago I bought every brand of .22 ammunition I could find, and ran it through a Tompson Contender on a rest just to see what was the most accurate and most consistent. It was a big surprise to find out that CCI standard velocity and Mini Mag were right up there with the best of the match grade stuff.

A few years ago I was looking for the most accurate .22LR ammo I could find that wasn't too expensive. I got about 20 different boxes of affordable (but not bulk) standard velocity ammo & a few boxes of expensive match grade ammo for reference. The 2 most accurate of all were Wolf Match Target & one of the Eley boxes of 50 that cost about $18 but can't remember if it was Tenex or a different type. Doesn't matter because Wolf was $6 a box & still is last time I bought it. Wolf also makes Match Extra which is just Match Target with tighter tolerances. I don't shoot well enough to see the difference. Anyway this & Eley tied for group size from a bench at 25 yards indoors. Used a Burris FastFire 3 red dot sight on my Ruger MK3 22/45 with Volquartsen trigger kit. Soon after this I got a Marlin .22LR 795 rifle. I did some trigger mods & put on a Nikon 3-9X40 scope & did the same 25 yard test with the same ammo & got almost the same results except this time Wolf Match beat Eley slightly. I've been using Wolf Match ever since. I've never seen it in a store. I get it online. My local range is only 25 yards & I got bored putting 50 shots in a dime-size hole with the Marlin so I took off the scope & put fiber optic sights on it.

Type in Accurate Shooter - they have tests out to 100 yards and test 55 brands of 22 ammo. I have a 513T Remington that even likes Lightning and Thunderbolt and Wildcat out to 50 yards. I haven't tried your ammo. The best cheapest is Remington 40g target for me. CCI standard does good in S&W 41's. I'll try your ammo if I find some. View attachment 701622
This stuff was great back in the day. Then Freedom Group happened and it went straight into the toilet quality wise. I'm taking rounds without powder, rounds without priming compound, rounds with priming compound but compound that shattered. The failure rate was spectacular. Luckily I didn't get any bullets stuck in a barrel. It took me years to get that crap used up.

CCI standard velocity on the other hand works. Not only in a cheap Ruger, but also High Standards and finicky model 41s.

And there you have it . A reply from a number of 22lr enthusiast and one grumpy guy , he he . Most 22lr ammo may shoot well enough you to fill your need but accuracy does cost more . As cost goes up the size or your group can decrease and fliers are less noticeable , most times but ammo that shots best at 50 yards may not be as good at 75 or 100 yards as some other brand you have . Werd , yes it is .

It use to be Wolf and SK 22lr ammo were loaded by Eley . Today !?

Besure to fire at least 10 shots before shooting for group size specially when trying different ammo . I read over on a rimfire forum where a guy shoot sk rifle match tried a blazer 22lr after the sk and for 5 rounds it shot Great before the well lubed barrel ran out of sk lube !

I so tried that same test and it was spot on .

For a site on 22lr ammo test check out the link below . Just understand that those of us that do occasionally shoot more costly brands of ammo may find our rifles will shoot better than this custom rifle in the test with some ammo brands in the test at the same distance . Just don't get to serious with it .

Note the western value pack ammo in the test below

American made.22 lr is fine for most shooting. But it is not good enough to be used for .22lr benchrest matches. Lapua, Eley, or RWS are what everyone that I know use for competition.

Been shooting Aguila Super Extra, and found it more accurate than Winchester Wildcat, Super X, Federal Champion, and Remington Vipers and Thunderbolts. Its also considerably cheaper than RWS Rifle Match and Eley Target; however, I tried some CCI Sub-Sonic .22LR because I’d heard them recommended as a cheap, accurate .22, and I may have a new favorite. Anybody else have good results with this ammo? View attachment 701620
Haven’t tried the subsonic but the std velocity CCI has been excellent in my rifle. Shooting .5 at 50 yards with a very ordinary 3-9x scope.

I have not found any “sub-sonic” or “quiet” .22lr ammo that will cycle reliably in a semi auto anything. Seems to work ok in my bolt action Marlin 81 where I shoot it out to 100yds but it tends to not be all that repeatable past 50yds.

for 100yd work I generally shoot cci blazer brass which works well but leads the barrel up, regular cci lr works well and the CCI Stinger ammo is my favorite at any distance and I use a load of the Stinger ammo generally after using any regular 22lr which helps delead the barrel.

I am quite happy with the results at 100yds with my Marlin Bolt action and my Henry lever, both quite accurate & reliable, same goes for my Marlin model 60 semi auto. All a pleasant surprise after being told that you can’t shoot 22lr accurately/reliably at distances beyond 50yds,,,,, I find that to not be true. But I will add that wind does affect the results a lot more. All from a bench rest by the way. At least that’s been my experience.
