Decatur Alabama for this.A career criminal( felon) breaks into this home. The female is a gun owner, does make the call to the pd.Then with 1 discharge solves the problem. While this will be investigated and likely cleared, still scary stuff.Surely this invader is pass tense, and 1 less problem to society. Crime is definitely not going to go down its dramatically gotten worse.

Glad she's ok.
re: training, there is training, and then practice. Many people conflate the two but they are different. I would argue routine practice is most important (provided one is not practicing something that will work against him or be unsafe). Many citizens without tactical training have developed familiarity with firearms and become safe (in terms of handling guns well) and dangerous (to assailants) with them. How many people practice regularly? I do, many of you do, most people on such forums do. The gen. public? Maybe more should. Training is a course you take which is not a regular thing; practice is regular. It is practice that builds familiarity and muscle memory. Obviously this lady practiced enough, thank goodness!

Wholeheartedly agree! I’ve been an NRA Instructor for over 30 years. I advise all my students to get to the range a minimum of once a month and fire a minimum of 100 rounds. Personally, I’m at the range at least 2 times monthly (personal time, not instructing) and fire a minimum of 250 rounds.

I’ll crawl out on that training limb and guess that most people that defend themselves in their home or in their business have zero training beyond what took to legally obtain the pistol. And maybe (big maybe) they might shoot with it once a year.

You dont need any formal training to shoot a person in self defense. You have to know how to operate your weapon, you have know how to aim your weapon and you have to have that mindset that you can take a life to preserve your life or a loved one's life. Without the last you have no chance of surviving an attacker. Tactical training is a plus but it is not a necessity in situations like this.
