I am getting a Ballester Molina from the 1942-44 British Contract. It is in great physical shape, except it has a High Standard barrel fitted to it, and doesn't have original magazine with it.
Despite the fact that it is in great shape, my instinct is that the lack of an original HDSPA [or whatever the acronym is- the gun is in lockup at my LGS] barrel reduces its collectors value.
Furthermore, even though it may have a period-appropriate High Standard 1911 barrel installed, it still has lost its' original collection value due to this barrel issue.
Lastly, having no matching magazines makes it less valuable also.
Am I correct?
I don't mind having a shooter. That is my nature- not a collector, but an accumulator, who likes to use what I have.
That said, if I am wrong and it DOES have a heightened collectors' value, I'd like to know so that I don't reduce said value any farther accidentally.
I have other 1911s, but I do like to use everything I have.
Thanks in advance.
