I must admit that I am an engineer and therefore a pain in the butt of most salesmen. I ask lots of questions and do lots of research before considering a gun purchase. I am not being vain when I state that when I purchase something , by the time I am ready to purchase I know more about the product and pricing than 90 percent of the reps and sales people. I typically have a good history of the strong and weak areas and want to know the problem areas to examine them before purchase. I remember buying a used HK 93 some time ago and I had the gun into a pile of parts and had my flashlight out and checking inside for areas I knew would show wear or abuse.
My question to you is ...Do you take the time to take apart new guns in the gun shop and look over the build quality and machining on new guns ??? Some of this will depend on the store allowing you to do this. Personally I won't buy a gun without a teardown. so if they want my business expect me to be poking around inside. Now I am also stating that the guns I tear down are in my ability to take apart quickly and effortlessly without springs flying or parts getting scratched up. I have no desire to damage or in any way make the gun into a mess. If I can't do my part quickly and flawlessly, then I won't attempt to look inside.
I find that I can tell an awful lot about the gun quality by looking at surface places not visable on the outside. I can also tell if the gun is actually brand new and look for any unusual signs of wear. I like to see how smoothly the machining has left slide rails and the frame itself. If you have good reason to look inside , or not to... please let me know why you do so , and what specifically you look for before your purchase. I assume like me you save this as a last check after weapon and store selection is made. I don't expect a gun shop to allow me to take apart 20 different guns and poke around on a whim....
