This handgun seems to be somewhat under the radar these days, and it's rotary barrel design doesn't impress a lot of folks. With Beretta's new APX on the market it looks to have dropped further behind other offerings, but it still apparently sells (to some extent).

Can the PX4 be called a success or more of an also-ran?

Probably an also ran and it wouldn't surprise me if the APX does eclipse it, though there is still a market for hammer fired, and DA/SA guns. The AIWB guys seem to prefer a hammer fired gun over the striker guns for AIWB, and I can't blame them.

Conversely, I would say it is "on the radar" these days as Ernest Langdon has recently put a lot of effort into the PX4 Compact with Beretta and Robar. I expect the full size gun will get some Langdon love in the near future.

Only shot one PX4 Storm in .45ACP. The recoil impulse felt weird to me, kinda like a spinning gyro. Seemed well built and accurate, but it's just not a pistol I'd care to own.
I had a PX4 9mm as one of my first carry guns. Nice pistol. A buddy kept bugging me to sell it to him for his wife to use, so I did. She's still got it and loves the thing.

I also bought one in .45 ACP. Had the same experience as US1911 did, and sold it.

And then the 1911 bug showed up, and you know how it went from there..............:D

IMHO......it's a clunker turd of a gun. We've got 2 on the shelf. No one even looks at them.

I had a PX4 in 45, grip was too blocky, DA (even 1st shot) is not for me, gun wouldn't group at all at 25y. I always said it was a fine 15 yard gun, but not much further. Next gun I purchased was my first 1911, never shot the PX4 again and sold it some years later....These day there are so many more choices in poly which are better. I now own a PPQ 45 which is a fine 25 yard gun, and probably well beyond. Awesome trigger, super ergo-grip.

I have a Px4 Compact in .40 S&W that I bought from a friend who needed the cash. It's actually a nice shooting pistol. Yes, it looks kind of like my 3rd gen S&W on a Twinkie diet, but it's not horrid. It is very accurate and it recoils less with .40 S&W than my wife's SD9VE in 9mm. It doesn't rate as high on my list of carry pistols as my 1911s, but I'm in no hurry to get rid of it.

As JTQ mentioned above, this thing got some attention courtesy of Ernest Langdon. I didn't care for previously available models but the PX4CC addressed pretty much all the criticism. It is a small gun that carries great, packs well and shoots much bigger than its size. There is a small room for improvement here and there but it is a tremendous pistol already. I now own two Langdon tuned PX4CCs and they are my carry guns.

I guess I'm one of those guys who loves them. Very accurate and completely reliable. I have the px4 9mm compact in Inox, and it is absolutely one of my favorite guns to shoot. Owned and shot a lot of 9's over forty years, a number of them very high end that sell for three to four times the price, and the px4 would be one of one's I just would not part with. One 'quirky' observation I have with guns is how dirty they get, and how easy to clean after extended shooting sessions. Yes, I know...weird, and of course to make the grade they first of all have to be accurate, reliable, etc. etc. But I attribute this characteristic to thoughtful engineering, intelligent design, precision manufacturing and quality. The two guns I have that absolutely excel in this regard is the px4 and HK VP9. The Beretta PX4 works for me....oh, and I would not part with my Browning HP either...

I have full size in .40 S&W I purchased back in early 2006.
It has well over 1000 rounds through it without a single issue of any kind.

But, it is one of the forgotten firearms in my safe....and I don't really know why?
It's one of the nicest handguns to shoot. It's as reliable as a firearm can possibly be, it's extremely accurate, and it's the most comfortable .40 cal I've ever shot.
I think my problem is that it's just not as well loved as my CZ's are.

I might not buy it again if I was going off purely the looks and large grip, but if I shot it again......it would follow me home once again too.

It's underrated IMO. Seems those who own one usually love them.....the problem the PX4 has is it's no longer Beretta's new kid on the block.
All eyes are on the APX and it appears to be a very good handgun.
Sadfully I don't see much of a future for the PX4 Storm.

I have a full size PX4 in 9mm, I like it but it hasn't seen much range time. I've been playing with Glocks and revolvers.

Mine's fairly accurate, I'll try it at 25 yds today. Now that I can change out the batwing dafety levers to 92 style ones I'm happier. Recoil impulse is different and takes some getting used to.

Maybe I need another one in .40 or .45. Both are supposed to be good shooters

Times are tough for all DA/SA guns. Sig P22X, CZ75 and Beretta 92s get buy on their military cache and history, while the HK hammer guns are often found in non-DA/SA LEM. The PX4C has a long reset, so it doesn't have LEM type appeal.

It seems to be a good gun, but so is the P99, P30, P07, Sig Pro, Grand Power, FNX, etc. Lots of good DA/SA guns competing for a shrinking market share.
