(From my Kimber post)...
Greetings, hope all is well with everyone. While I spend this time recovering from my fourth (4th...!?) hand/wrist surgery this year, I came across the 2022 Kimber Catalog showcasing the upcoming Optics Installed (OI) Rapides. Nice looking optics ready slides on these shooters, but that's leading me to the question:
Should I change out the standard slides of my Rapide (DN,NS) 10mm and Rapide "Black Ice" .45 ACP for these newer slides (if they're even sold separately), or stick with what I already have? BTW, I installed a Streamlight TLR-6 (for Non-Railed 1911's) on them including my Raptor II 9mm to see how the light and laser will hold up (but the Doc's won't "clear" me to shoot. Yet...).
I have red dots on two of my Sig's (P320 Scorpion AXG and a Legion P229), my Walther Q4 SF OR, and my FN FNX-45 Tactical, as opposed to my plain slide'd Kimber's, Sig Legion's P220, P226, and P938, and an HK45 Tactical. I can (or "used to") shoot each of them great, iron sights, lasers, or red dots, HOWEVER, I can see the usefulness of the red dot sighted pistols at longer distances (and years down the road in regards to my eyesight).
Should I make the effort to change-out/upgrade the Kimber 1911 slides to optics cut, or not? I have NO idea what the "buck to bang" ratio will be, IF, I can find the new Rapide optics ready slides...
THX for the input and sanity check(s)!
