Did it say anything about how to differentiate between them?

Thanks

Well, Myself and another fellow named Randy + another guy who's name I can't remember (after all it was 25 years or so ago) worked for Lew Horton at their short-lived West Coast wholesale office who came up with the whole "El Presidente" concept after seeing how well shiney 38 Supers sold to the Latin population---really, that was the idea, sell shiney high priced 38 Supers to Latin folks. The Lew Horton folks were VERY reluctant, but finally agreed to make this special run pistols---of course the rest is history---this is the first time I've seen the whole long list of pistols that came out of this---our office nickname for the never ending line of "El" pistols was "El too manys"…

Great story, thanks for sharing.

The names did get a little silly, EL Jefe, EL Jefe Supreme, EL Jefe de Jefes, EL Supremo Supreme, El Jefe de Jefes Maximo, for example, seems like lack of creativity there towards the end.

That aside, I picked this up this EL Jefe, El Topo about 2 weeks ago and I can't wait to mate it to a proper Colt bottom which I've already order. I'm not Latin, but living in California aka Baja of Mexico, with my love for Mexican food and fondness for Latin women, I thought way not get a shiny 38 super to go with a little Tapatio hot sauce.

Sorry for the poor photo, I will update when the time allows.

I'm not particularly a fan of the SOB - south of the border - guns other than they're .38 supers, my favorite caliber. Unfortunately, the O2071ELC2 .38 super in bright stainless is no longer in production. I've been looking for one for a couple of years with no luck yet so I may have to settle. Odd that the Mexicans don't allow private ownership of .45's but they allow .38 supers. The supers tend to be the best shooters with better groups than most .45's. At least that is my experience. I only have a few guns that outshoot my $400Taurus pimp gun in .38 - those being a Valor, a Special Combat, a Black Stainless and a Kobra Carry. None of them is anything but .45

Thanks for the list!!!

I have #007 of the El Capitan run...a great "little" gun as it is the only Officers ACP length slide .38 Super Colt ever made. Would love to have a matching El Comandante (high polished stainless Combat Commader) but the $3K that most go for is beyond reason to own one for me.

And my El Capitan is a shooter... Replaced the high polish short trigger with a long Vediki and a high polished arched mainspring housing. For a long time it wore smooth ivory grips with silver Colt medallions but now has a set of carved ivory grips from probably the 1950s. When I shoot it I do take the ivories off and put on a set of smooth ebony...

I also had an El Potro, super blue Combat Commander, but sold it....
