I want to get some thin wood grips for my RIA Tactical, will I need to buy some grip screws/bushings that are specifically made for thin grips? Have any of you switched to slim grips without replacing the bushings/screws?

You need different bushings and screws for thin grips. If you don't change them the grips will probably sit off of the frame and you could have issues with the screws rubbing the magazine.

Don;t go cheep .I don't know what type of screws you want but if they are allen head get good ones . the heads of the cheep ones will snap off leaving the screw stuck in the bushing. At the gun show last week I had a customer with that problem /was able to get it out for him. Go to Fusion ,EGW or a good maker for your parts .

This^ from first hand experience. It is also a good idea to go ahead and buy the correct driver(slot with shroud) because using a screw driver will most likely result in breaking the bushing ears

Fusion is the company I was looking at, I can't decide what style grips I want but I'm leaning toward these: http://www.fusionfirearms.com/servlet/the-139/Grip,-Cocobola-Slim-Grip/Detail with their set of slotted/blued screws and bushings for thin grips.

I'm torn between these diamond checkered wood grips and a set of thin VZ grips (wish I could check out all their different designs in person, the gators look interesting).

you need the bushings, otherwise the screw bottoms out on the standard bushings long before it holds the grip tight .
You need the thin screws with the thin bushings , otherwise the standard screws will protrude thru the frame (as mentioned)
and your mags won't insert well and/or drop free

and this ^^^

a good hollow ground screw driver can work "OK" for standard bushings if careful
but really tough for thin grip bushing

you can buy them here

http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-t...s/magna-tip-bits/magna-tip-reg-1911-auto-bushing-driver-trade-bits-prod493.aspx

may as well get your bushings and screws from Brownells too
(Nothing against Fusion, I've bought plenty of their parts and they've all been quality)
...just that "I" think you need the thin bushing driver , so no need to pay shipping to two different vendors

be careful getting the new bushings started and don't cross thread them

While we're on the subject of grips: does anyone have an opinion on installing little O-rings on the grip screws to keep them tight by...I don't know, absorbing vibration or something that might loosen the screws. And also, I've noticed the grip screws on the double-stacks (like the TCM) have a larger head than the single-stack grips. I also have been unable to find a source for anything other than slotted-head screws for these grips. Guidance, anyone? Thank you.

These have been on my CS since 2008, Fusion Checkered Coco bola, not thin grips, SS screws, torx.
