Hello everyone. I was curious to hear what yall's opinions are on if a 'fighting knife' needs a cross guard or not. I have a sog seal pup elite that I like using for minor woods work but it's also referred to as a 'tactical blade'. It doesn't have a cross guard which I would think makes it unsuited for combat(obviously, if you're life is on the line, you'd use anything but you get my point)? I would be afraid of my hand sliding up the blade. I know the modern soldier's blade isn't geared for combat since it's more likely to be used to open a box vs fighting. I do notice that most knives purpose built for combat do have a cross guard, though. Of course a 'survival' knife is gonna be built differently then a 'combat' knife. I'm just looking for different opinions from people more knowledgeable then I. Thank you for your time.
