so, I need some advice. I've only shot centerfire rifles in .223. Mostly shoot handguns. If I shoot rifles it is usually an 1800s style black powder .50 cal or a .22 lr.
But, recently chanced upon a WII type Enfield rifle. It was 'sporterized' so is a shooting gun not some priceless heirloom. Looks to be in good shape - I hope I'm in that good shape when I'm that old! Plus it has iron sights. So many bolt action rifles these days do not.
I was wondering, as a centerfire rifle newb - is cartidge (.308? I thought they were 303 but that's what the seller said) too much to start out with? I admit I was drawn to the gun because it looks pretty much like the sporterized rifle used in the movie 'the ghost and the darkness', and because it was old and I dig old things with history.
But it kinda also fits what I want in a bolt action - iron sights, big centerfire caliber, even has the magazine cutoff functional so I could single shot it if I wanted!
But is .308 too much to start with? What's your take on this?
