Firing Pin Question - Colt 1911 Series 80 MKIV Gold Cup National Match

I don't see the plunger spring for the Series 80 Plunger that blocks the firing pin. The series 80 lever might raise the plunger, but without the spring to push it down, the plunger could stay up and continue to block the firing pin.
If the plunger stays up, the firing pin will not be blocked, the springs task is to push the plunger back down so the firing pin is blocked. ;)

Yes and no, notice the hour glass figure of the plunger, if it goes up far enough it will block the firing pin again. I have experienced this assembling/disassembling my series 80 1911's. BUT, yes, the series 80 levers are going to push it up only far enough to clear the firing pin, it would have to "overtravel" to block the firing pin again. But that would not be impossible to imagine with the forces of the slide moving back and forth.
Notice the plunger is counter bored for the spring and stops solid/even with the slide, even without the spring the plunger can't go too far, so, no. Your experience suggest out of spec parts, or an imagination. Your quoted statement claims if the plunger stays up, it will block the firing pin, no.

Maybe it's me, the OP shows the measurement of the firing pin being 2.2605". Spec is 2.296" +.006, that's at least .036" short, over 1/32" of an inch. Does that not matter?
Yes it could, however the 1911 firing pin is an inertia type which strikes the primer, not mechanical. The fact that the S80 lever doesn't move with a trigger pull is an obvious problem and reason for the failure.
