Four leaf sear spring

It's my understanding that a four leaf spring keeps the sear/hammer from getting damaged in pistols with light triggers. If so how light are we talking? The lowest trigger on any of my pistols breaks at 3.5lbs. Should I consider putting a four leaf spring in it?

I would consider perhaps an advantage in a gun with a heavy steel trigger and 2.5# pull weight, but for 3.5#, with a lightweight trigger, it's not necessary.
I have one in a gun that I put together 30+ years ago, but it has a Dlask titanium/magnesium trigger and 3.5# pull, so it was more about the fitting and pondering, than necessity.

No, no need for a four leaf spring. You can run a three leaf spring down to 2 lbs. with no problems if the trigger job is done right and you don't do stupid things like snapping the slide shut on an empty chamber. I suppose like RickB said IF you are running a real light pull with a heavy steel trigger (why?) or IF you have something oddball like a Govt. model that someone put a heavy Gold Cup trigger in with a light trigger job (hard to believe but that was sort of a thing back when) or IF you are running a crazy heavy recoil spring (like with a 45 Super or 10mm with off the chart loads) you might think about a four leaf spring.
