I have searched and I can not find the answer. When the 1911 fullsize is in the Galco Miami Classic and the Jackass Rig , can you close the snap/strap with it cocked-and-locked ? If so can you post a picture please ? I know some companies have a thing saying that they will NOT SNAP WITH COCKED AND LOCKED. Any pictures with it snapped and cocked are appreciated . Thanks much !

I have a Miami Classic and yes it snaps just fine cocked and locked. Must admit that I have not worn it since I retired as a LEO over four years ago. My first from them was a Jackass for a 2 1/2“ model 66 in 79. Very good leather, in my opinion. Have had numerous holsters and strap units for over 40 years.

I got 25 years in and a few to go to retirement , so I say thanks so much for your service ! Our work is so hard now days, on the street and behind the desk ! Thanks for the holster information. I am almost 50 and I am wanting something to carry my 1911 instead of a holster on my waist.

Galco changed all of their thumb-break holsters to allow snapping over a lowered hammer, fifteen(?) years ago, so they're now somewhat loose if the hammer is cocked.
My Jackass is about 20 years old, so is designed for a cocked hammer.

I have been wearing a Galco Miami rig since '91 and love it. If you have a choice be sure to get the extra wide shoulder straps - they're MUCH more comfortable for all day wear. I made an extra set of straps using heavy duty elastic for work supenders. It was very comfortable but was a little "bouncy" on a hard deck when walking or running up stairs. Belt tie downs help a lot also.

Here is the FAQ page comment from Galco

The Proper Way to Carry 1911s with Your Galco Holster
Galco holsters which have a retention strap with reinforced thumb break intended for single-action pistols (such at the 1911) are designed for “hammer down, empty chamber” carry, unless otherwise specified. Galco holsters lacking a retention strap with reinforced thumb break (“open top”) are designed to carry single-action pistols in all safe conditions of carry as specified by the firearm manufacturer.

Here's a photo of one of my shoulder holsters. this one has the widest straps that Galco makes, Anderson mag/knife carrier, & a Master's 1911 holster that has a nice metal backed thumb break that works perfect for condition 1 carry. It's a well balanced rig.

Only issue I've had is I have to to double check the thumb safety after snapping the holster thumb break closed as sometimes the safety gets flipped. Couple times I've drawn it & the safety was already off.

I used to carry my pistols in a Galco Miami Classic and then found the much more comfortable Galco Jackass Rig. Which was vastly superior due to the wider shoulder straps, which eliminated upper back and shoulder fatigue that the Classic's skinny straps caused. Especially on long 5-6 hour surveillance spent sitting in a car. Recently, I reevaluated my shoulder holsters because of the horizontal carry and the barrel pointing at people thing. I have since switched to vertical carry with the Galco VHS shoulder holster system. I separately purchased the Galco wider shoulder straps for more comfort. Oh, and I've never seen any Galco shoulder holsters where the snap was specifically designed to cover a 1911 with the hammer down. At least none of the ones that I've ever purchased were designed that way.

Also, Tercel89 and apipeguy and others involved in this thread who are current or former law enforcement. Thank you all for your service. I spent a little over 10 years in law enforcement before moving over to the dark side and going to work in the private sector. Thank you my brothers in blue.
