I've been looking into putting a hammer and sear set into my SA 1911 as part of a trigger job. It will be a 4 - 5 lb pull. I think I basically understand enough to get the right tools for the job and some of how to do the work after reading about 50 pages of info on the web about doing trigger jobs, but now the parts are killing me.
Will start like AA here. I'm and engineer. . .but I'm trying to quit being one!!
Anyways, there are a ton of hammers.
Musts:
Stainless Steel
Hard 50+ Rockwell C
hammer hooks prepped (.020 high, just a light stoning required)
narrowed to clear the slide
captive, sear protecting half cock
Wants:
radiused edges
polished where visible
Sears are about the same.
Musts:
Hard 50+ Rockwell C
pre-prepped (just light stoning and relief angle cut)
Wants:
Stainless
So what should I be looking for. I was kind of set on the Ed Brown parts, but they are cast. Is that a concern? Seems like one, but then tex_n_cal in another post was writing about surface cracking with EDM. urrgh? S7 tool steel is stainless, right? I should be digging through books, but they are in america
Right now, I'm thinking about the Wilson parts. They seem about the closest. What do you use as a favorite? With CMC hammers is the metal radiused and polished or is that just good photography? Also, do people finish sears with coatings like boron carbide/Black T or do most just leave these parts in the white? Lastly, should these be bought in sets from one maker?
Anyways, what do you use?
