As a Christmas present to myself I finally pulled the trigger on a P365... or shall I say it followed me home... or [fill in tired old gun purchase cliché here]. Both local shops got in brand-new shipments, and this time they made it into the glass case instead of all being spoken for. I went with the shop that was willing to knock a few bucks off the price (sorry to you other guys who wouldn't budge). The build date is November 6th so it's still pretty fresh. I wanted to wait a little while and let everyone else find the flaws in these before deciding to get one. Hopefully they've been sufficiently de-bugged by now. As soon as I was done with the paperwork and had it in my hand I retreated into my car, did a quick field strip and lube with CLP, then went to the indoor range and put 200 rounds of Federal FMJ through it to test it out and break it in.
Functioning was completely flawless, the trigger felt nice, the grip felt good, the sights were dead on (although I still have a tendency to throw shots left when I shoot little guns like this), and accuracy was better than I expected. It easily outshoots my Taurus PT-111s and is on par with my .380 Glock 42, which I also had on me today and shot for comparison. Between the P365 and the G42 I actually prefer shooting the SIG, and if it proves reliable over the long run the Glock may be in search of another home. Recoil wasn't at all unpleasant even if it did jump sharply. Unlike a lot of other small guns it stayed planted in the hand and didn't shift or feel uncomfortable. I'd say a female shooter would like it a lot as long as she didn't mind the snappy recoil. Two other things though, the report is LOUD and there is a very large flash which tells me a lot of unburned powder is getting wasted out of the short barrel. I don't yet know how much of a velocity penalty you get out of a stubby pistol like this. The mags were easy to load with an Uplula, but that 10th round is a very tight fit meaning it's probably best carried 9+1. I think SIG should've designed the grip and magazine maybe 1/8" longer and given that last round a little extra breathing room. I have medium-sized hands so the grip fits me well, but those with gorilla hands might find it too crowded unless you get the optional 12-rounder.
I'll continue to take this pistol to the range and see how it holds up, but I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that it does well because it feels "just right" to me as a CCW piece. It's big enough to shoot well yet small enough to hide just about anywhere. I noticed however that this thing has the bare minimum amount of steel in the barrel and elsewhere, so it's probably not a 20,000-round gun no matter what SIG or anyone else says. And yes the primer indents are smeared on every spent case, but that appears to be the norm with this pistol.
