Hi everyone I’m trying to find some ivory grips for my full size 1911.
I want some good ones for my full size 5 inch 1911.

can anyone suggest any sites or sources they think are reputable ?

So far I’ve come across this site. Will these work on any 1911?
many suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Don’t forget to order the correct cut : taper or mag well and there is one more: main spring housing pin covered or exposed.
Learn terms:
Elephant Ivory, regulated across state lines and banned in several states. Expensive commodity bought/sold within the Republic of Texas and internally within some other states.
Mammoth Ivory, banned in some states, prehistoric critters.
Man made ivory, there are many brands, methods of manufacturing and some look real. A few states also has decided to include because they can’t tell the difference.

Ivory importation is banned in the USA (even legally harvested Ivory) because of that idiot Obama bending his knee to the Sierra Club crowd.

If you find any pre-ban Ivory it can NOT be purchased/shipped legally across state lines so it has to be a grip maker in your state. I was lucky enough to get real Ivory grips from a maker in CT and then in NC when I lived in those states. I also managed to have a few ivory handled custom knives made by a local maker in my state years ago. If you can manage the logistics they are a great investment since they have more than tripled in value since I purchased them.

Mammoth Ivory on the other hand is legal to import, own and buy. There are several good companies that do an excellent job and you can decide how much “bark” to have on your grips, but you’re looking at roughly $500+ for a good set from a reputable maker.

Funny enough, Nutmeg did my Elephant Ivory grips for my mint Python when he was still doing that work for the old Colt Custom shop. They are nothing short of magnificent!!! My Elephant Ivory grips for my Kimber Ultra Raptor came from NC Ordinance when I was still a NC resident. They still have some real Ivory but will not sell outside of the state.

I have a set of Mammoth ivory grips done by Scott at SK Grips. Scott said they came from Mammoth molars. They are beautiful.

I bought a set of used Boone plastic/polymer imitation grips with Colt medallions on this site a few years ago for a Tisas project. They are good for the price. At 5-10 feet they look like ivory. Close up, good but not the real thing. I haven’t tried tea/coffee staining. I should.

Only in your own state if there are any makers that still deal in elephant ivory or private sales with certificate of origin before Obama's ban on them (in your own state only as well).

Superdad5:

see pictures. The ivory with the pin hole access cut out are tapered, the flush cut (mag well) ivory does not have the cut out.
The cut out is the way original guns were made.
Over the years with designer grip panels becoming popular, it was deleted since most folks remove the panels for
disassembly. View attachment 733074
Thank you very much sir I appreciate it.
Both are extremely beautiful.

Late in 2015 the African Ivory restriction date was approaching; I had recently purchased several 1911 sets from David (Boone Trading). That turned into several more because no one really knew how the African Elephant Ivory issue would shake out. I decided to offer.

Did you ever wonder what happened to the inventory David had at midnight on that magic last day? Someone had to do it, I have proper documents on every piece. There are more but they are mounted on guns. Don’t ask, none are for sale.…even in Texas. Several years ago, I did give my First Officer a set. I do not own any non real African Elephant Ivory…on guns. I have one Randall with fake ivory…I’m replacing It with something. Not sure what.
