I recently built a Colt Combat Commander in the style of Bob Chow. The biggest thing to remember is do NOT use the stock screw, go bigger. Take aq look at the old masters that used the K sight to get an idea.

Here's one I did a couple of years ago.

In order to get around the problem of the retaining screw being sheared during firing, I've used the later style sights with the 6-48 countersunk screw in lieu of the early 3-56 screw and having to add a shear pin.

 

The GI dovetail has to be welded up.

You may want to change "has to" to "should".

Innovator has a Swenson that the dovetail isn't welded up, and it looks great.

Now it's possible that the hardchrome makes it look good.

nice work DonW, that sight looks like it grew out of the front of the slide! May I ask what kind of grips you have on your pistol?

 

I would love to have a K frame rear sight on my LW Champion but the slide is dovetailed for a GI rear sight.

The gun isn't mine, it was done for a customer, but IIRC they're VZ 320 blasted black canvas. I've seen some Swenson guns where he split the factory rear sight, drove it into the dovetail from each side and pinned it in place. Once that was done, he blended it to the slide top and cut through for the S&W sights. Best,
