Looking for a right-hand, all-leather, shoulder holster for a full size 1911 with thumb break retention. Mag holster on weak side. Both sides anchored to the belt. Horizontal or canted carry. Not verticle. No elastic anywhere.

We have a shoulder holster "sticky" thread that may give you some ideas

Buy Galco's shoulder straps that have wider straps over the shoulders. That will correct that issue. I had a Miami Classic that I wore and sat inside a parked vehicle conducting 4 or 5 hours of surveillance and the thin straps caused my shoulders to ache after just an hour. I later switched to the Galco Jackass Rig because it had the wider straps and no more sore shoulders.

Now Galco sells the shoulder holster components separately and I bought a Vertical shoulder holster and the wider straps. I prefer the vertical holster because it keeps the muzzle pointed down and not at people behind you.

Andrews Leather Monarch rig. $$ rig, but it's one heck of a rig. Ted Blocker makes another seriously fine rig, but for a 1911, I do use the elastic strap on the mag carrier side. It just stays put better for me.
I have Galco for my 229 and it's a decent rig, but I prefer the other two by a longshot.

I recently purchased a Galco Miami Classic horizontal shoulder holster that I like. It has a plastic tab positioned to keep the thumb safety engaged when in condition one. As noted above, the harness with the wide straps is more comfortable. I also own the vertical holster but I prefer the horizontal rig.

I just found another source of chest/shoulder holsters while at the Alaska State Fair. GhostTown Leather's chest holster is very adjustable due to how the straps are attached. Five ways to be exact, one of which makes it a "tanker" type shoulder holster. Besides the heavy English saddle leather Mike uses, I like that the belt strap snaps on a belt loop and is adjustable.

Another feature is that with the straps removed (the straps are attached with chicago screws), it becomes an on-the-hip holster or a cross draw holster depending on how it is installed on the belt.

I'm going back today to look at Mike's holsters one more time. I have both an M3 and an M7. The M7 has heavy weight leather like the GTL chest holster, but the hardware is a bit weak. I does work, though, so I don't know if I want to pony up the cash for another holster right now, but being around all that great smelling leather might just change my mind!

Edit: Just went back to the OP and see this holster doesn't exactly fit the bill, though Mike may be able to do something that would. Sorry about that....

I have a Mitch Rosen Express Line horizontal holster and a 2 mag pouch. It is all leather and it is made to ride close to your arm pits. I have mine adjusted now after measuring and punching several holes on each side to accommodate my chest size. It is a great rig and doesn't move around and doesn't need to be attached to your belt. If made and adjusted correctly no shoulder holster of this type needs to be tied down. I wear it every day with one or another Pro and Commander sized pistols mine is cut for and forget I have it on. I like their holsters so much I have an OWB 5JR lined holster as well which is a top line holster.

Mitch Rosen gets my vote.

I gave my shoulder holster another 3 day shooting spree in Youngstown at the NE Ohio Bash. It works fantastic for a SH but, getting to the mags for any speedy reload is out of the question. Besides muzzling everyone behind you and slow to get on target, the mag pouch is a killer for any good quick loading. I am getting a couple of single mag pouches and transition to standard mag carry and loading.
Any shoulder holster I every get in the future will have a pistol holster only and No under arm mag holder. I have been to several multi day shoots with mine and the holster works awesome but slower of course. and a real %@#& to reload from.

Something to think seriously about before you purchase. Mitch Rosen makes a real nice SH with holster only at a good price.

Why not just add a double magazine pouch (or two) on your belt instead of removing the spare magazine double pouch on the shoulder holster? That's what I do and it gives you even more ammo to easily carry. Better to have more than enough than not enough. As for the "muzzeling of everyone behind," why not chnage out the horizontal holster component to a vertical holster? That's what I did with my Galco VHS vertical shoulder holster.

I can see that and they don't need a retention strap to jerk open. The thumb break on my holster is slow to get open and it gets in the way of me getting my correct grip, I use a high grip and really put my hand in it tight. When I draw it is almost there but I catch myself using my weak hand to position the pistol so I can get a tighter grip on the presentation. It slows me down on getting on point to break the trigger. I work on this every time I am shooting a 1911 as all mine fit this Rosen holster.
I am hoping to get stronger and be able to stand and walk to use a OWB

I have two Galco shoulder systems Miami and Jackass and they filled a niche for me a once time ago. After seeing a undercover DPD detective flung to the ground like a rag doll because the perp grabbed him by the shoulder harness… spun him around while the cop was trying to retain his gun. I decided then and there I would not wear the rig again, it happened at lightning speed. If it had not been for a few gutsy citizens it would have been a really bad night for that cop.

Why would a shoulder holster be exposed where it could be grabbed? I am assuming it was outside his shirt/jacket? I have three of them, Jackasss and Miami Classic set up for the 1911 or all three sizes of the Smith and Wesson guns.

I carried a Commander size gun plain clothes and undercover for 6 years and wore it quiet a bit when we hiked or I rode horses. I like them pretty well, nobody should ever know you are armed unless you have some thin shirt or something over it. Another beauty of those rigs is they leave your belt clear so you can mount a second handgun which we did quite a bit in high threat terrorist threat areas.

Somebody like TripleX or something like that makes a copy of the Miami Classic for about half price, they seem to be just as good to me. So, I would recommend looking around. When seating in a car, there is nothing faster than have that gun horizontal, it is just handing there at the right level for a quick draw if your seat belt is out of the way. They are fine rigs.

I have a Galco Verticle Holster, but I'm still not 100% sold on it.
I had to make a small mod of putting a piece of leather at the top to
spread it open around the safety when holstering it. It was easy to bump
off the safety and the beavertail would also easily catch depressing it.

It's much better now and easier to holster it. But the but of the hand grip
still pokes out a bit, It's ok for a jacket but not so much for just a shirt.
I may buy the horizontal holster piece and see if I can angle it down.

One of the larger selling features of this one was the wider straps.
I figured if need be I could buy the horizontal piece.

Holsters are like shoes, what works for one person does
not work nor fit well for another person or their purposes.
Do what works for you, since you're the one wearing it.
