I hope this is the appropriate thread to post this question. I'm new at forums, but need some help.
I have a very nice 1956 Marlin 39a. It was my fathers when he was 16 and passed it on to me. The gun is in excellent shape, but I ran into a problem today at the range.
After I fired my last round I pulled the lever to eject the empty casing. However, the lever wouldn't go the full way and was jammed. I couldn't eject the casing. What I ended up doing was field stripping it, removing the casing and trying to figure out what was keeping the lever action from moving the bolt back. Obviously I didn't figure it out!
With the help of my friends, I figured that I had to manually pull the hammer back, then pull the trigger pin out. With the trigger pin out I can complete the lever action to eject/load into the receiver. However, when the hammer releases and pushes the firing pin the lever jams again.
I'm thinking of taking it to a local gunsmith, but would love to fix it on my own.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
