Though I'm a very serious 1911 lover and always will be, lately I've come to view my Glock 29 (compact 10mm) as the top choice for carry and overall defense (for me anyway)... compact size, highly reliable, good capacity (11 rounds) and very potent (10mm!). It's not especially enjoyable to shoot warm 10mm loads through it for a long extended session, but for a few mags worth... it's superb for defense use. The 29 stoked with eleven rounds of 180 gr. Golden Sabers moving at 1200 fps is very comforting to have along for possible social issues (four-legged trouble too). It's smaller than my Kimber Compact CDP lightweight (similar thickness overall) and the same weight weight fully loaded. With the custom mods I've done to the model 29, I think it's just a superb defense gun. I'm so impressed with 10mm as a caliber and the Glock 29 as a launching pad... this is my first Glock and won't be my last... next up is the full size Glock 10mm - the model 20.
Of course, I also continue to buy 1911's (mostly Colts) because the 1911 is just awesome too!
