Going thru my powders today looking for suitable 38 Super powders. N105 is the logical choice for max loads but I don't want to run this alloy framed Guardian that hard. But I do want to utilize the cartridge so ,
124g JHP at 1275 to 1300fps out of a 4" barrel for personal carry using XTPs or Gold dots. I have Unique and loading info that gets me there or very close, still going for accuracy first! A little TG and PP to work with however PP has too much muzzle flash for a cc gun I understand that. I use VV N320 for 9mm and 45 both, its low flash,clean accurate. Looking for the same again, maybe N340?
I am not stuck on 124s either in this caliber but that is closest to it's design bullet of 130g. 147s can be pushed to so fast speeds with modern powders and 115s can be screamers.
I have a few hundred 125g HAPs and a lot of Precision Delta 124g JHPs to work up loads with, anyway most of my on hand stock runs in the 124g range initially bought for my 9mms. I just finished a run of 115g HAPs for my buddy, official count 1580 rounds on my turret T7 press so I am a little burnt out on 9mm Luger right now.
I have 500 brass plus p from Starline on BO right now but bought 200 Serbian PP 38 Super Plus P new brass from Graf. today to start with.
What powder do you run with 124g JHPs? I am new to 38 Super so ask for your advise. I have plenty of W231 on hand for target loads and a lot of Unique which will work for what I ask. I'll never run out of either of these in my lifetime.
