@Chance-dg I am going to enjoy seeing the responses here....hopefully the thread will be ongoing.

When getting powders & tips for my .38 Supers I bought the following:
N105
AA7
AA9
Power Pistol
Blue Dot
Shooters World Major Pistol

I also likely have a 10+ year supply of W231, SW CleanShot and even more TG that'll be used for .45 & 9mm.

As far as bullets go for the .38 Super....I'll be using 124gr hp from Montana Gold and some coated lead as well.

Brass will starting of with range pick up & once fired brass.

I was scoring cases of Starline .38 Super over the last year.....now have 3K on backorder with them.
They seem to be out of stock of most of their stuff. I feel fortunate to have been able to get their .308, .44mag, .460S&W and .45/70 brass this past year.

You should download the VV app and the Sierra app for phone or tablet. I got both free and they are good resources. Screenshots from the phone:

The sierra is different - you select the velocity you want and they give you the data, as opposed to just a min/mix. SO here is their 1350fps screenshot, figuring you get your 1275-1300 in this range:

I've really enjoyed that Sierra app. (y) (y) (y)

It proved really handy when I was at a local powder & primer supplier's shop......helped me choose what I'd likely need and spent my funds in useful directions....vs blind buying.

I'd already loaded up on all the primers he had and was jumping on powders.

Recently added a .38 Super Guardian.

It showed it's ass in the first range session....extractor way out of adjustment. It was like a replay all over again of my Razorback.

I haven't taken the time to get back to the range with it.

I will say this...it feels great in hand and I was shooting the same ammo through another steel framed 5" that day.

On the rounds that actually ejected the gun felt great during the cycle.

I'm going to go with a ledge rear and gold bead front on it and some thicker grips.

I do believe it'll be a super carry Super. (y)

Powders on hand that I'll try with it: AA#7, Blue Dot, N105, PowerPistol, SportPIstol, AutoComp, & W231. I don't think I'll be messing with TG. My range "normally" has an assortment of Shooter's World powders, too.

Heya Dub, I figure if I can get one bought it will be a problem child, just my luck and the way life goes. I will learn I guess or hold out for a custom build......I am over 1800.00 now so a custom build is not out of the question if I save while the build is starting. I am going to the Spring BASH this year so figure all my 1911s will have malfunctions and breakages with the high round counts. And I am prepared to be disappointed with the ones I have. I will be at Bill Wilsons shop for a day and it will be hard to resist having another one built while there to order it.

I would be proud of a custom built Pete Single commander sized 38 Super. No question about it. but can I afford such a work of art>

I've found over the years that if I have a long standing gun goal....things will line up and take shape for me to act on it.

It's always good to pick on up that'll serve your needs for a long, long time.

I wish I'd started being more critical in my twenties when buying guns. I'd have picked up more Colts..... base gun 1911's & wheelguns. ;)

You'll have big fun at the Bash.

I have confidence in your guns running just fine.

When you go to WC, please bend their ear about them dropping the .38 Super from their lineup.

It figures they'd do this right about the time I finally gave the cartridge a try....and really took a liking to it.

I will bend their ear for sure, I know he dropped chambering 38 Super pistols of all types. I know I like the looks of it on paper, sounds great as I am not a huge fan of 9mm Parabellum, no particular reason other than a buddy had a Baretta 92 something or other and neither of us could hit @#&% with it and that sucked. Especially as he was an MP active service at the time and had just come back from a tour in South Korea. I grew a dislike for the 9mm from that day on for a long time. Now I have 2 accurate 9mms and load for it, usually close to max per the books with 124g JHPs. but still won't carry one off the property. My G19 build is still soo tight after 700 800 or more rounds it just hesitates going into battery usualy and needs that extra tap. I am getting used to it now and this evening noticed I thumbed the rear of the slide after every shot without thinking. I may go to 147s with this one for a while just to see, I am running a standard G spring for a 19 and in 9mm. It is a Grey Ghost Slide and Wilson Barrel and has been very tight since I put it together. Very tight.

I look forward to the week , it will be fun.

9mm grew on me over time. I was late to the 9mm 1911 party for certain. Quality magazines have done much to make them reliable.

Super smooth shooting in 1911 format. I'm finding that .38 Super shares that same smoothness.

The 2011 guns really sealed the deal for me. Tremendous fun to shoot. High round count range sessions are grin inducting each and every time. They eat up a pile of ammo, however.

Absolutely flawless performance from my Wilson M92 Criterion & Centurion as well as a Wilson G19. They've never failed to feed, fire & eject.

The Guardian is doing well.

Finally spent some time on the bench with it to replace the OE extractor with a WC Bulletproof model. Flawless functioning through three boxes of ammo with the new extractor in place.

Had some carry time....and boy, does it carry well. Literally forget its there. (y)

Bayou Bullets has a 150gr Hi-Tek coated lswc that has me intrigued for the .38 super.

I believe I'm gonna give them a try.

18% off discount going on right now with Bayou, too.

If you cast your own, the Saeco 383 is a nice bullet weighing in at about 145 gr. This pic has, from L to R, the old Lyman standby 356402, Mihec's HG275 at about 135 gr, the Saeco 383, and factory Dardas.
I'm not a great fan of the Lyman bullet, as this particular one doesn't have a distinct cutting shoulder. So, it makes holes more like that of a round nose bullet. I've seen a recommended load of 6.0 gr of Unique for the Saeco bullet, giving about 1200 fps. Which is no slouch. But is about .3 gr over listed max in Lyman's Cast bullet reloading manual. But, at the same time, Lyman's "max" load is nowhere near max according to pressure.

I have that Lyman cast manual handy.
